Low Carbon Hub at the Environmental Audit Committee

Low Carbon Hub CEO Barbara Hammond was invited to speak at the recent Environmental Audit Committee on ‘Enabling sustainable electrification of the UK economy’.

The discussion delved into issues of connecting new renewables to the grid, planning processes, engaging with communities where renewable energy projects are set to be placed and the value of Local Area Energy Planning.

Barbara talks about the importance of listening and engaging with communities during the transition to net zero, and the need for community consent in advance of planning applications so we can create positive change and “run towards our future rather than worry about moving away from our past”.

Other important issues were also discussed including the need for big changes in allowing communities to buy and sell energy created locally, the power of community owned energy and what constitutes positive community benefit.
