Low Carbon Hub named a finalist in two of the prestigious UK Social Enterprise Awards, which recognise businesses that are transforming communities and tackling climate change.

We are excited to share that we have been shortlisted for two UK Social Enterprise Awards, recognising Low Carbon Hub as one of the UK’s most effective social enterprises.

We are a finalist in the following categories for 2022 for our contribution to creating an energy system that’s good for people, and good for the planet:

  • Environmental Social Enterprise – for a social enterprise in the green and environmental sector with a clear evidenced environmental impact.
  • Place Based Social Enterprise – this award is for a place based social enterprise that trades for the benefit of their community.

You can read the full shortlists here.

In the last year we have generated 4.54 GWh of green electricity, enough to power 1,566 typical homes and save 1,050 tonnes of CO2. Our portfolio of renewable energy installations is anticipated to deliver £2.59M to local communities across Oxfordshire to further support community-led action on climate change.

social Enterprises in the uk

Social enterprises are businesses that trade for a social or environmental purpose. There are an estimated 100,000 social enterprises in the UK contributing around £60bn annually to the UK economy and are set up to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing society.

Research carried out by Social Enterprise UK, the membership body for the sector, shows they are outperforming traditional businesses when it comes to start-up rates, turnover growth and innovation. They are also ahead of the pack when it comes to workforce diversity and pay.

The UK Social Enterprise Awards are awarded by Social Enterprise UK (SEUK), the UK’s leading membership body for social enterprises and recognise excellence and innovation in UK social enterprises. SEUK exists to be a strong voice for social enterprise, to evidence the difference that social enterprises are making and to demonstrate solutions and influence decision-makers to create an environment in which social enterprise can thrive.

The UK Social Enterprise Awards are the ultimate showcase of the impact and excellence of social enterprises. These are trailblazers and standard setters for how to do business better, in ways that put people and planet first. They empower and uplift communities. They show us all how we can do business in a way that helps the environment.
