Oxford Travel Options Website
Making sustainable travel easier. Low Carbon Oxford North (LCON) were awarded a grant of £5,000 from Low Carbon Hub’s Community Grant Fund toward the cost of launching a new sustainable travel website.
Further funding came from the Zero Carbon Oxfordshire Partnership (ZCOP) and the Federation of Integrated Transport.
The challenge
Transport accounts for around 23% of Oxford’s carbon emissions. LCON felt that many people would be encouraged to drive less if they had access to a single, accessible source of clear information on the options to use public transport, low carbon active travel routes and car share schemes.
The goal
To develop and build a user-friendly website to help anyone who lives, works, or visits Oxford, find sustainable alternatives to travelling by car around the city.
What happened?
- LCON researched sustainable and active travel routes around the city and built upon their knowledge and experience of taking part in the Oxford Car Free Challenge project.
- They partnered with ZCOP to create a joint project and commissioned a copy writer and website designer to build the ‘Oxford Travel Options’ website.
- Collected inspiring, relatable stories from local people to include.
- They included creative travel schemes, including cargo bike hire and lift share buddies.
- Provided clear explanations of public transport options, including different bus ticket types, wheelchair access options, journey planners, and advice on travelling with kids.
- The Oxford Travel Options website launched in May 2025:

Impact
- There have already been 1,843 views and 518 active users since the launch in May 2025.
- There has been considerable positive feedback received from local groups and website visitors.
We know from working with Oxford residents that there are lots of people in Oxford who would like to drive less and would value some support in making changes – and this is exactly what Oxford Travel Options is intended to do. We know that small changes to our travel habits can save money, reduce stress and improve happiness, as well as improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.
