Practical, community-led climate action in Chipping Norton

Transition Chipping Norton is part of the international Transition Network, which helps communities around the world take practical steps towards a sustainable future.

The group believes in the power of people working together locally. After the climate emergency was declared, it formed a town-wide Climate and Ecology Action group. This led to the Eco Buddy scheme, which helps households, streets and workplaces share responsibility and work together to cut carbon.

After surveying residents, the group launched several projects people could join straight away. These include a community allotment run on permaculture principles, a Plastics Action group and the Clean Air for Chippy campaign, which aims to keep polluting heavy vehicles out of the narrow town centre streets.

The group works closely with Hook Norton Low Carbon, a fellow Low Carbon Hub community group. Together they share a car club and offer low-interest or interest-free loans to help people install energy efficiency measures at home or at work.
