With support from Abingdon Town Council, the group created a Climate Emergency Centre in the basement of the County Hall Museum, in the heart of the town.

Run mainly by committed volunteers, the centre has welcomed over 4,000 visitors seeking information and advice on all aspects of the climate emergency. It aims to be a vibrant community space promoting environmental conservation, building community ties, and developing a sense of purpose to act on climate, ecological and social issues.

One Planet Abingdon works with Low Carbon Hub’s Energy Advisor to raise awareness of reducing gas and electricity consumption – helping people keep warm, reduce bills and cut carbon emissions. They share information on home retrofitting approaches, from Cosy Homes Oxfordshire’s Whole House Plan to available grants.

The group places a strong emphasis on involving young people, running creative workshops including a sustainable fashion project that led to an exhibition now touring Oxfordshire. They also help local schools set up Eco Clubs, with over 50 young people engaged in planning eco events across Abingdon.
