Heat Clanfield

Heat Clanfield’s founding members were originally part of existing low carbon community group, One Planet Clanfield, who started them thinking about how to become a low carbon community. They were inspired to develop community energy projects in the parish and became a separate legal entity in 2024, choosing to form a Community Benefit Society to serve the broader interests of the community as best as possible.

They received a Community Energy Fund grant from the Greater South East Net Zero Hub to carry out a Phase One Feasibility Study into renewable heating technologies, grid connection & battery storage facilities.

The support of Low Carbon Hub has had a lot to do with Heat Clanfield’s successful progress so far. They are a wonderful group of kind, intelligent, committed people who have a clear vision for a clean, fairer energy system. Their expertise, guidance, and patience helped us through thorny issues like how best to incorporate, and how best to implement home and business energy use reduction programmes. What’s more, Low Carbon Hub events have been a great way to learn from experts and other community groups.

Above all, Low Carbon Hub’s moral support and encouragement gives Heat Clanfield a massive energy boost. I recommend it.

Having commissioned low carbon technology consultants, Scene Connect, to advise on the most suitable and affordable solutions for Clanfield, they are currently consulting with the community on potential options and ideas:

  • Two possible ground mount solar arrays on land in the village.
  • Rooftop solar array on the Primary School and Nursery.
  • Home Energy Decarbonisation campaign to increase energy efficiency & take up of heat pumps.
  • Home energy assessment scheme with guidance on grant funding and energy efficiency measures from trained volunteers and experts.
  • Thermal imaging camera service to provide tangible results for residents, with advice on low –carbon measures.

They have attended Low Carbon Hub’s thermal image training sessions and carried out a thermal campaign in the area.
