Sustainable Harwell is a community action group working on sustainability projects in Harwell village.

They run multiple projects tackling climate change, reducing waste and pollution, and improving the local environment, and welcome participation from all.

Smart Plugs Project

Following a talk by Equiwatt on how residential demand management can help households collectively support the transition to renewable energy, Sustainable Harwell has been offering group members free smart plugs for use in their homes. The plugs help reduce energy use during peak times by acting as a virtual power plant through connected assets such as EVs and home appliances.

Community Orchard

A team of volunteers has been caring for the young hedgerow plants for the community orchard in the Rec. Over the first weekend of December 2022, a tremendous team of helpers planted over 30 trees.
