Minibus Driver Training For Road Safety

Upskilling minibus drivers with the gold standard of training.

First and Last Mile CIC were awarded a grant of £500 from our Community Grant Fund towards the cost of refreshed teacher training for Minibus driving.

The challenge

First and Last Mile CIC, a community transport group in West Oxfordshire, provides the gold-standard CTA MiDAS (Minibus Driver Assessment Scheme) training to improve minibus safety.

To keep offering this vital service, the trainers need refresher training courses every two years.

The goal

To offer volunteer drivers teacher training in MiDAS so that they can go on to train other drivers in the gold standard of driver training, ensuring drivers have the skills and knowledge to provide safe, legal and comfortable journeys to passengers.

What happened?

  • Volunteers successfully completed refresher MiDAS teacher training.
  • This keeps MiDAS driver training available to local organisations like schools and colleges.

Impact

  • Safer, more confident drivers.
  • More minibus training means less need for more costly, larger coach services.
  • Reduced carbon emissions as one minibus can take up to 16 cars off the road.
  • Greater inclusion for rural areas as minibus services improves people’s access to local services.

It is a wonderful community service run by wonderful volunteers. Thank you to them all.
