    LESS CO2 Energy Efficiency programme - a year long workshop-based support programme offering peer mentoring, expert advice and resources to empower and equip staff to make changes and improvements to their school to reduce their energy usage, save money on bills and lower their CO2 emissions.

    Free Solar Rooftop surveys - to assess the suitability and potential CO2 and financial savings of school buildings for your school. 

    Solar Schools - a comprehensive solar installation service to power your schools with community-owned, discounted green electricity. 

    Energy efficiency audits - schools signing up for the LESS CO2 programme or a free solar rooftop survey will also have the opportunity to apply for a grant to pay for a detailed energy audit of your school estate.

    A programme designed to help schools become more energy efficient. Through four half-day workshops spread through the year, peer mentoring, expert advice and free resources, staff are empowered and equipped to make changes and improvements to their school to reduce their energy usage, save money on bills and lower their CO2 emissions. 

    It's a free programme available to any school, regardless of whether you are council run, an academy or independent. On average, schools that participate save £2,600 and 10 tonnes of CO2 in the first year. 

    The programme is delivered by the charity Ashden. The Low Carbon Hub was a winner of the 2016 Ashden Award for Sustainable Communities and we are thrilled to be working with them to bring this programme to schools in Oxfordshire.

    A rooftop survey is the first step to understanding whether solar PVs are right for your school - and realising the potential CO2 and electricity savings they could bring. This is a free service we offer to Oxfordshire schools as part of our commitment to encouraging the uptake of solar PV across the county. 

    We arrange surveys and make applications for grid connections and planning. 

    We draw up a legal agreement through which you lease us your roof space. 

    We do all of this at no cost to your school.

    If your school's buildings are suitable for solar PV we can help you with making that potential a reality. If your school has access to your own funds you may choose to install and own your own panels. Alternatively you can partner with us to bring community-owned renewable energy to your school.  This is how it works. We: 

    • manage the whole project 
    • fully fund the installation by creating an investment opportunity via a Low Carbon Hub Share Offer
    • sell the electricity the panels generate to the school at a discount, saving you money on your bills
    • sell any surplus clean energy to the grid. The revenue the panels generate pays for the solar installation and maintenance, and for investor returns. 

    Our solar schools therefore get solar panels at no cost to yourself, as well as smaller electricity bills, enabling you to focus resources on educational priorities. 

    We reinvest 100% of our own surplus revenue into our Community Benefit Fund.  

    We know that schools are extremely busy, so we maintain and project manage the installation from start to finish over the full 20-year period.

    When you sign your school up for either the LESS CO2 programme or a free solar roof survey, you become eligible to apply for grant funding for further energy efficiency support. This could be an in-depth energy audit carried out on your schools building or expert telephone based support to identify and deliver the energy saving measures that are most appropriate for your school. 


    Whichever activity you pick, tackling your school's energy use is a wonderful way to  engage your students and your local community to think about their own relationship with energy, and the role we all have to play in protecting the planet.
