Abingdon Carbon Cutters aims to do what it says “on the tin”: reduce the carbon footprint of Abingdon in response to climate change, and promote a sustainable lifestyle.
We meet on the third Wednesday of the month at St Ethelwold’s House. At some meetings we have guest speakers and at others we discuss actions to address climate change but our focus is on encouragement. Come and join us!

Abingdon Hydro is a Community Interest Company that has been formed to work on a project to generate hydroelectric power from the Thames at Abingdon.
The rules for this type of company require that it must produce benefits for the local community, which is very important: this is a community enterprise, and we want as many local people as possible to share in the ownership and the benefits.

Barracks Lane Community Garden is a community-run green space off the Cowley Road in East Oxford.
The garden hosts many regular events and workshops. We welcome new volunteers to help keep the garden open to the public on weekends, to assist with gardening and maintenance, or helping out at our events.

Our environment group has a strong conservation focus: we have planted a Millennium Wood to the west of the village and run a wildlife project in the churchyard to increase biodiversity.
On the energy side, we have done an award-winning thermal imaging survey that has encouraged insulation of local properties but our most recent programme is on the installation of PV panels. The group organises two public meetings a year to kick-start local green initiatives.

CAGLeys, that is Community Action Group Blackbird Leys, started in September 2009 and is a community project bringing together local residents to promote sustainable lifestyles and learn more about climate change.
There’s lots of support for recycling and we host regular swap shops alongside other local events such as school fêtes. We also have a community allotment, organise regular green gym activities, and host film showings on sustainable living topics. We’re always on the lookout for new members to bring us that extra energy and enthusiasm, so please get in touch if you’d like to get involved.

We are an enthusiastic group of committed individuals with the joint aim of challenging and improving environmental sustainability locally.
We do this by running around 10 events a year on subjects that one or more of us feel passionate about. These include swap shops, annual Christmas tree shredding, “on your bike” days, litter picks, and hosting environmental and wildlife talks.

Our mission is to minimise waste and maximise the quality of life in our community. At the moment the main focus of our group is building a new community centre and a cycle track between Dean Court, Farmoor and Eynsham.
We have a swap shop on the first Saturday of every month, weather permitting, on Pinnock’s Green. Meetings are informal and fun, and usually include a glass of wine – 8pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone is welcome!

The Goring and Streatley Sustainability Group (GSSG) is a group of volunteers committed to climate change for the benefit of the broader population, and our children.
We have two main objectives: first, to promote, for the benefit of the parishes of Goring and Streatley, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the area; and, secondly, to generate 1,000 MWh of clean hydroelectric power per annum from three Archimedes screws on the weirs at Goring & Streatley, enough to provide the electricity requirements for over 300 dwellings.
